As Project Manager at Cardinal Intellectual Property, Derek manages and performs trademark searches. Working closely with clients, he creates customized strategies and aligns the scope of the search to meet their goals.
A detail-oriented and highly-trained trademark professional, Derek utilizes advanced searching techniques and the most up-to-date trademark databases to uncover registered, cancelled, expired, pending or abandoned trademarks. He also utilizes common law sources to comb through business directories, domain name registers, web pages and other source outlets. From design to word marks, Derek has performed numerous searches, spanning all manner of goods and services.
Prior to joining Cardinal in 2016, Derek gained several years of lititgation experience, working for a firm in Chicago.
Derek earned his J.D. with a certificate in intellectual property law from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and his B.A. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin. He is currently a member of the Illinois State Bar.
