Stephen Smetana

As Project Manager, Steve leads our team of highly trained mechanical and life sciences research professionals, which includes registered patent attorneys, patent agents, and individuals with advanced technical degrees. Acting as a liaison between clients and search analysts, he defines the scope and price of searches, directs technologies to the appropriate analysts, and determines customized strategies for client search needs.

Assisting a wide range of Cardinal’s clientele, Steve manages searches and specializes in the fields of biomedical, medical devices and mechanical devices. He is well-versed in all aspects of the patent process, having performed over 1,000 searches. In addition, Steve’s industry work includes developing a monitor for SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

Steve earned his J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law and his B.S. in biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa. He is currently registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as well as a member of the Illinois State Bar.
