As a Project Manager and Search Analyst, Matthew leads our highly trained professional research team, which includes registered patent attorneys, patent agents, and individuals with advanced technical degrees. He specializes in the following technical areas: computer, electrical, telecommunications, mechanical, medical devices and business methods. Acting as a liaison between clients and search analysts, Matthew defines the scope and price of searches, directs search projects to appropriate analysts based on technology and subject matter familiarity, and determines customized strategies for client search needs. He also manages dockets and reviews all search results for quality assurance. Assisting a wide range of clientele, Matthew has completed and managed thousands of patentability, invalidity and freedom to operate searches for Cardinal.
Before coming to Cardinal, Matthew was a practicing patent attorney. His experience includes all aspects of the patent application process, including application preparation and filing, office action responses, and appeals in domestic and foreign prosecution. Matthew has additional experience preparing opinions and counseling clients in anticipation of litigation. Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Matthew successfully designed, developed and tested programming architecture and software systems as a consulting software engineer. Matthew’s experience informs his understanding of the relevant issues for each type of search performed.
Matthew earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he received an Award of Excellence in Patent Law. He earned his Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from the University of Illinois College of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Matthew is currently a Patent Attorney registered with the United States Patent & Trademark Office and an active member of the Illinois Bar.
