Cardinal Intellectual Property (CIP) representatives Ron Andermann and Les Williams attended the AIA roadshow on March 7th at the Chicago Public Library. The USPTO explained its proposed rules for various new provisions required under the AIA including supplemental examination, inter partes review, and post grant review. CIP representatives actively engaged in discussions and gave suggestions to the USPTO officials Under Secretary and Director David Kappos, Patent Reform Coordinator Janet Gongola, Deputy Director Brian Hanlon, Hiram Bernstein, Chief Judge James Donald Smith, and Lead Judge Michael Tierney.  The subjects discussed include: Inventor’s Oath/Declaration, Preissuance submissions,  supplemental examination, Genetic Diagnostic Testing, Inter Partes Review (IPR), Post Grant Review (PGR), Covered Business Methods (CBM), and Derivation. The USPTO requested all the suggestions should be submitted to the USPTO before the deadline for such submissions. The due date for submissions for Inventor’s Oath/Declaration, Preissuance submissions,  supplemental examination has been extended a week from the deadline March 6, 2012 ( http://www.uspto.gov/aia_implementation/comments.jsp#heading-1).

Later Andermann met with Director David Kappos, who lauded Cardinal’s performance and help in taking care of PCT application backlog.
